Rejuvenation - Adventure to Oklahoma

September 10, 2016

It was a Saturday morning and the thought of puttering around the house, meal planning or grocery shopping sounded terrible. I had cabin fever and the desire to just get in the car and go. So that is exactly what we did.

I packed a few snacks, filled up the girls sippy cups, packed the diaper bag and hit 7-11 for coffee on the way out of town. We decided to head North. Yep, that was our destination. The only thing I knew was that we were going on a day road trip and that I wanted to stop at the Oklahoma border and take a family picture with the welcome sign.
Potty break and gas fill up!

Across the highway from the gas station there was the most random spot of sunflowers.

Family selfies are hard with the sun and wind!
After our pit stop we made it to Oklahoma and Troy was sweet enough to oblige what he felt like was a crazy, unsafe, unwise, maybe even a little terrifying, idea of pulling over on the side of the freeway, unloading 3 small children, running to the Oklahoma sign and taking a family selfie. The semi truck drivers out here are also no joke. They put California truck drivers to shame. They fly down the freeway at 75+ no problem. Admittedly, especially around the freeway construction zone catastrophes I am often passed by semis... But alas, family photos and I am obsessed!

Troy put each kid under the letter of their first name. The girls thought that was an amazing idea!

On our way to our unknown destination in Oklahoma we crossed the Red River. There are a lot of rivers and creeks in Texas but this one was particularly bizarre as the water actually looks red. We took notice of it our way out and on our way back Troy got the adventure bug and pulled over on the highway and found a way down to the riverbank. Time to explore!! If it weren't for the fact that I had to go to the bathroom so badly and that we were coming close to food time before my girls were going to get hangry and the snack supply was low we would have explored so much more and spent more time there. We want to go back with a better plan and time carved out just for the Red River.

Parked the car this close to the Red River. Waiting for brother's diaper change on a fallen tree trunk!

It was quite muddy and we were ill equipped with the shoes we had on. But they made it work!
Made it to the top! The cars are whizzy by above us.

Her greatest cheerleader and protector.
